3. Extracurricular activities: hiking, tourist and sporting events at the University's holiday home "Nezabravka", athletics events, field trips, etc.

Physical Education, Sport and Tourism classes were started as early as the establishment of the Plovdiv Branch of the Technical University of Sofia.

In 1987 a Physical Education and Sports Unit was set up at the Centre of Social Sciences. Its first Head was Assoc. Prof. Gencho Geshev, PhD (until 1992). The team consisted of two associate professors and seven senior lecturers. Assoc. Prof. Petar Lazarov, PhD, was part of the team until 01.10.1991.

From 01.09.1992 to 01.09.2007 Assoc. Prof. N. Angov was Head of the team of 6 senior lecturers, specialized in the following sports: basketball, volleyball, athletics, swimming, artistic gymnastics, tennis, tourism and orienteering. In 1993 the Department of PE and Sport was set up.

On 01.09.2007 the department was transformed into Centre of PE and Sport, headed by Assoc. Prof. Valentin Vladimirov, PhD. The Centre of PE and Sport cooperates with the Students' Council at TU-Sofia Branch Plovdiv, Academic Students Sport Club in Plovdiv and Academic University Sport Association in Sofia.

Since it was set up the Centre (Department, Unit) of PE and Sport has been extremely successful both in developing students' physical activities and skills and in the high performance of our teams in basketball, volleyball, athletics, orienteering, swimming, power triathlon, alpine skiing, tennis, table tennis, football and handball.

Our teams have taken prestigious positions in national, regional and city students' tournaments, winning medals, cups and diplomas for both individual and team performances.
